Surah Al-Qalam (سورة القلم)

Surah Al-Qalam ("The Pen") is the 68th chapter of the Qur’an, revealed in Mecca, and consists of 52 verses. It begins with:

“Nun. By the pen and what they write.” (68:1)

Allah swears by the pen, emphasizing the sacredness of knowledge, writing, and divine decree.

Key themes of the surah include:

• The noble character of the Prophet Muhammad (verse 4)

• Mockery and denial by the disbelievers

• A parable of wealthy garden owners who forgot to thank Allah and lost everything

• The importance of patience, humility, and justice

The surah powerfully contrasts true moral character with arrogance, and reminds believers that worldly success without gratitude leads to loss.

It is often read for guidance, ethical reflection, and spiritual clarity.
