Shahada (الشهادة)

The Shahada is the Islamic testimony of faith, which declares:

“Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadur rasulullah.”
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

This phrase affirms two core beliefs:

1. Monotheism (Tawheed) – belief in the oneness of God

2. Prophethood (Risalah) – belief in Muhammad as God’s final messenger

Reciting the Shahada with sincere belief is what formally enters one into Islam. It is also recited in daily prayers, moments of reflection, and ideally at the time of death.
