Salawat (صَلَوَات / Allahümme salli alâ seyyidinâ Muhammed)

Salawat refers to invoking blessings and peace upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The most common formula is:

“Allahumma salli ‘ala sayyidina Muhammad wa ‘ala ali sayyidina Muhammad.”
“O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad.”

It is commanded in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Ahzab (33:56):

“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings and peace upon him.”
