Protection from Evil Eye (العين والحسد)
The evil eye refers to the harm caused by envy or excessive admiration, believed to bring misfortune, illness, or setbacks. In Islam, it is known as ‘ayn (the eye) and hasad (envy), and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The evil eye is real.” (Sahih Muslim)
To protect oneself, Muslims commonly recite Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Nas, Ayat al-Kursi, or say phrases like “MashaAllah” and “Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel.” Protective jewelry or talismans are also used, provided they don’t contain shirk (idolatry) and are worn with the intention of remembrance and supplication, not superstition.
